The rest of Norka Beverage Company's Story

Based in Akron, Ohio, the NORKA Beverage Company was founded in 1924. Following prohibition in the 1920, breweries switched to producing soft drinks which prompted the original opening of NORKA (Akron spelled backwards) at 608 Spicer Street in Akron. The beverage company thrived and quickly became a favorite. Akronites couldn’t get enough of the craft soda in custom bottles.

Nevertheless, NORKA shut down operations in 1962 after nearly 40 years of production.

Fast forward 53 years later and NORKA president and founder Michael Considine, who was in the beverage industry, went to an Akron RubberDucks game where he saw a vintage mural featuring the West Point Market, the Soap Box Derby, Firestone Country Club, and also the NORKA Beverage company. It was this moment when Considine remembered this Akron orange drink from his youth and decided to do the research required to revive this speciality beverage.

NORKA features the original flavors of Orange, Cherry-Strawberry, Ginger Ale, and Root Beer. The specialty beverage offers a healthier soda alternative by using cane sugar and 100% natural flavors, keeping it caffeine free and using low sodium and gluten free attributes. It’s great taste rich history has propelled it in beverage industry. NORKA is excited that those who remember it from their youth can enjoy the beverage, but also that a whole new generation is being introduced to it as well.
