Backyard Farms

I grew up in the country in Orrville, Ohio with animals and around farms my entire life. I always had a love for the lifestyle and grew up knowing that eventually my path would lead me “home.” My humble roots engrained in me the way of life that you get what you give.

I grew up in the country in Orrville, Ohio with animals and around farms my entire life. I always had a love for the lifestyle and grew up knowing that eventually my path would lead me “home.” My humble roots engrained in me the way of life that you get what you give.

I moved to Akron to attend the University of Akron, where I graduated with business and communication degrees. Coming from a small town, I fell in love with Akron and have lived here since 2004, but I always felt a pull to go back to my country roots. In 2014, I was reading on the rapid decline of pollinators and by happenstance attended a honey extracting demonstration at the Nature Realm where I met members of the Summit County Beekeepers Association. I immediately joined and became a member, took classes, and eventually went on to become a board member for three years. During that time, I met many amazing people who became my friends and mentors, taught beekeeping classes, and took part in many workshops and monthly meetings. In 2017, I bought a house in Ellet with a third of an acre and launched Backyard Farms. My goal is to bring sustainability and agro development on a smaller scale and educate people where their products come from. "Know your Farmer" is my motto and I firmly believe that you should know where your food comes from and what it actually takes to get from farm to table. I absolutely love the hard work it takes to be a farmer and being able to contribute to the betterment of my community and alleviate food deserts with accessibility and locally produced products.
